This exercise helps to make a soft, supple horse with maneuverable hips and shoulders.  It will make him use a different part of his brain and keep him attentive.  This is a great drill to do as a foundation drill and to really emphasize when you are having certain problems.

A great training drill to get your your horse snappy, soft and responsive on the backside of the barrel.  Keeps them free moving into the turn, but locked on the turn helping to leave with power.

Keep That Lead

Young horses or really sensitive horses may think you mean “swap leads” when you pick up with that inside rein. Repeating this and riding them to stay in the correct lead will help them to hold that lead and now be swapping back and forth.
